Grounds for Indigenous Knowledge: The Importance of Being Emic in an Etic World. Introduction to the Session

Lawrence F. Van Horn

The seven papers that follow were all presented at the 96th Annual Meeting of the American Anthropological Association (AAA), which ran from November 19-23, 1997, in Washington, District of Columbia. The actual day of presentation was November 23, 1997. The idea of a session grew out of a chance meeting at the 95th AAA Meeting in San Francisco. John Beatty, Barbara Joans, and Larry Van Horn ran into each other. One idea led to another. The circle expanded, and the theme became "Grounds for Indigenous Knowledge."
